Ladder Street
Ladder Street is one of Hong Kong’s most iconic and historic thoroughfares. Built in the 1840s, it consists of a series of granite stone steps that climb steeply from Queen's Road Central all the way up to Caine Road. It is a preserved piece of "Old Hong Kong" that offers a vertical journey through the city's heritage.Unlike the modern escalators nearby, Ladder Street has remained largely unchanged for over 150 years. It serves as a pedestrian artery connecting the bustling commercial district with the quiet, leafy residential areas of the Mid-Levels. Walking up the street, you pass several Grade I and Grade II historic buildings, making it feel like a "living museum" of the colonial era. Ladder Street is a favorite for street, architectural, and fashion photographers due to its unique geometry and atmospheric charm.
